Laboratory Chemical Safety Audits

Laboratory Chemical Safety Audits

Environmental Health and Radiation Safety (EHRS) conducts routine audits in all research, teaching and clinical laboratories where chemcials are used or stored with the intent to reduce risk, determine compliance with federal, state and local regulations and promote a culture of safety.

This audit provides guidance on training, personal protective equipment, chemcial management, standard operating procedures, chemcial waste handling, signage, housekeeping and other general topics. Audit summary reports are provided to the Principal Investigator (PI), Laboratory Supervisors, Instructors and/or any other responsible party. Findings noted in the reports will have target dates for correction. Findings not corrected by the specified date will be subject to follow-up through the LCSA process. This process involves the Environmental Health & Safety-Safety Committee (EHSCC), Department Chairs, Deans/Associate Deans and the Vice Provost for Research.
