About the Project

Temple University is building the Caroline Kimmel Pavilion for Arts and Communication, a transformative 210,000-square-foot facility that will serve as the new home for the Klein College of Media and Communication and the Center for the Performing and Cinematic Arts (CPCA).

This state-of-the-art building will provide students and faculty with cutting-edge technology, modern rehearsal and performance spaces, collaborative learning environments and dynamic media production facilities. Designed to foster innovation and community engagement, the pavilion will elevate the academic experience and the impact of Temple’s nationally recognized programs in media, communication and the performing arts.

The Caroline Kimmel Pavilion will contribute to Philadelphia’s cultural landscape, extending the Avenue of the Arts and reinforcing North Broad Street as a hub for creativity and artistic excellence.

Architectural Design

Designed by the renowned architectural firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, the new facility will be a landmark on North Broad Street. It features modern, flexible spaces that support a wide range of activities and learning styles, promoting interaction and collaboration among students, faculty, and the community. 

Timeline

The creation of the Caroline Kimmel Pavilion for Arts and Communication is an exciting and meticulously planned journey. Our project timeline highlights the key milestones and phases of construction, ensuring that every detail of this transformative facility is developed with care and excellence. 

Key Milestones 

The anticipated timeline is as follows:                                                     

  • Finalize selection of Design Architect, complete 
  • Concept/Program Phase, complete 
  • Schematic Phase, complete 
  • Design Development Phase, complete 
  • Construction Documents, ongoing  
  • Issue RFP for construction. Process should take approximately 6 months working with the Commonwealth Department of Government Services (DSG). The timeline assumes an overlap with the design phase by three months. - Main contracts have been awarded and construction is on-going
  • Construction, started, estimated 30 months 
  • Occupancy for fall semester 2027
